GLOUCESTER: James M. Stanton, 89, died Friday, August 9, 2013 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on April 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Ellard R. and Marguerite F. (Essbury) Stanton. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the Engineer Aviation Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.
James was employed as a machinist at Gorton’s of Gloucester for twenty years before his retirement in 1986. He was a life member and past Commander of the Doucette-Linguard V.F.W. Post #1624 of Gloucester. He enjoyed traveling and loved to fish for stripers. In his younger days, he loved roller skating with his family.
He is survived by a brother, Ralph V. Stanton; a sister, Grace Munroe. He is the beloved uncle of three generations of nieces and nephews and leaves behind many cousins. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Marguerite Stanton, Calvie Stanton, and Marion Gilbert; seven brothers: Robert, Richard, Frederick, Thomas “Ray”, Alfred “Skip”, Charles “Butch” and Wayne Stanton; and four cousins: Thomas, George, Jack and Don Ramos.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17th in the Beechbrook Cemetery, Essex Ave. (Rt. 133), Gloucester at 1 P.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
