Margaret “Peggy” (Scanlon) McCarthy, 89, of Westport died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at home. She was the wife of the late John N. McCarthy.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late John T. and Eva (Armstrong) Scanlon, she had lived in Westport since 1955. Prior to retirement, she worked for the Hampton Inn and also Bradlees Department Store in Somerset. Mrs. McCarthy was a Communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. She attended the Social Day Program at the Westport Council on Aging.
Survivors include a son: Retired MA State Police Lt. Robert N. “Rocket” McCarthy who currently serves as a Director for the Office of Education and Compliance for the Diocese of Providence, RI and his wife Connie of Westport; a daughter: Janice McCarthy, R.N., of Westport who worked for many years at Charlton Memorial Hospital and then for Southcoast VNA of Southeastern MA; a brother: Joseph Scanlon of Tiverton; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late John T. Scanlon, II and Eva R. Waite.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, August 5, 2013 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
