
CHICOPEE– Hazel J. (Williamson) Poulin, 81, a longtime resident of Belcher Street in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Thursday, August 1, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at her daughter and son-in-law’s, Bonnie and Ken’s home, in the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers from Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice. She was born in Boonville, New York on August 24, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Alvah and Gladys (Capron) Williamson. She was raised in Boonville, New York, graduated from Boonville High School, and lived there for many years. She relocated to Chicopee and lived on Belcher Street in the Chicopee Falls section of the city for many years, before moving to her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Feeding Hills in November of 2012. In the early 1970’s, she worked as a noon mother and bus monitor for the Chicopee School Department at the Belcher School and was affectionately known by the children as “Mrs. Poulin”. She was employed for over 27 years as a postal worker at the Bulk Mail Center on Fiberloid Street in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. During her leisure time, Hazel enjoyed the simple things in life. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid card player who was always ready for a good game of cards with her family and her many friends. She was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls. Following the closure of her parish, she became a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Armand J. Poulin who was Called Home on March 16, 1979. They were married on January 22, 1955 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with 24 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving daughter and son-in-law who were her devoted caregivers, Bonnie M. LaBonte and her husband, Kenneth LaBonte, of Feeding Hills; her cherished grandchildren, Danielle, Steven and Angie LaBonte; her cherished great-grandchildren, Haley LaBonte-Perron, Jasmin Jones and Caiden Bailey; her other daughter, Carlene E. Chagnon, her husband, Norman Chagnon, and their son, Joseph Chagnon, all of Columbus, OH; her brothers, Milford “Mel” Williamson of Boonville, NY, Wallace “Bill” Williamson and his wife, Laura, and Milton Williamson, all of Constableville, NY; her sisters, Leola Dorrity and Shirley Angel, both of Rome, NY, and Stella Mosicky and Gloria Williamson, both of Boonville, NY; and her many nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Gilbert and Norman Williamson; and three sisters, Vivian Baker, Betty Curtis and Velma Pickard. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
