NEW BEDFORD -- Daniel J. "Dan" Hicox, of Acushnet died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Esther (Allen) Hicox.
Born in Pittsfield, the son of Irene (Olson) Hicox of Acushnet and the late Robert Hicox, he had lived in this area for the past 2½ years, and prior to that lived in Alabama, Florida and Maryland.
A graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, he was employed locally as human resource manager for ABC Disposal Co.
An Army veteran who served in the Gulf War, he served on the executive board of the American Legion Post No. 265 in Acushnet, was a notary public and was a member of the Professional Human Resources Association.
Mr. Hicox was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
A lover of the outdoors, he was a golfer, loved gardening and was an avid camper.
Survivors include his widow; his mother; three brothers, Bob and his wife, Brenda, and Bill, all of Alabama, and John and his wife, Gwen, of Kentucky; an aunt; two nephews; several cousins; a stepdaughter, Kelly DeSouza, and her husband, David, of New Bedford; and two grandchildren, Michael and Emily DeSouza.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday September 3, 2003 in Grace Episcopal Church, 422 County St., New Bedford, followed by burial in River-side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
