Obituary

BRIDGEWATER - Paul E. Bumpus, 80, lifetime resident of Bridgewater, died Tuesday at home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of 54 years to Eleanor M. (Wright) Bumpus.

Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Middleboro, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose (Short) Bumpus.

Raised and educated in Bridgewater, Mr. Bumpus graduated from Bridgewater High School, Class of 1942.

He was a custodian at Bridgewater-Raynham High School for 25 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Bumpus was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a member of the Bridgewater Veteran’s Club.

Mr. Bumpus enjoyed gardening and camping.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cheryl A. Daily, James E. Bumpus, Peter V. Bumpus and Michael P. Bumpus, all of Bridgewater, and Paula M. Webber of Taunton; a brother, Robert Bumpus of Bridgewater; two sisters, Ruth Davey of North Woburn and Eleanor Munise of East Bridgewater; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was brother to the late Frank, James, Raymond and Vincent Bumpus and Flora Rhoades.

His funeral will be at 8 a.m. Friday from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater.
