Obituary

Jane E. “Mimi” Worthen, 69, of Ledgehill Rd., Center Tuftonboro, died Monday, March 11, 2002 at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Mass. She was born in Quincy, Mass. on July 24, 1932, a daughter of Bessie W. (Bishop) Holmquist and the late Harold Holmquist. Mrs. Worthen was a resident of Center Tuftonboro for five years, formerly a longtime resident of Hampstead. She was a graduate of Hampstead High School, Class of 1950. She was a member of the Hampstead PTA, a charter member of the Hampstead Historical Society, and a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church. She owned and operated Muzzy Tavern Antiques in Hampstead. She was the secretary for the Tuftonboro Free Library. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice G. Worthen Sr. in 1984.

She is survived by three sons, Maurie G. Worthen Jr., Bruce H. Worthen, Jon A. Worthen, all of Hampstead, six grandchildren. Matthew Worthen, Marissa Worthen, Joshua Worthen, Jennifer Bellerose, Becky Curtin, Charlie Curtin, one great-grandson, her mother, Bessie W. Holmquist, of Center Tuftonboro, two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Betty Ann) Buttrick, of Center Tuftonboro, Wilma Amliw, of Salem, several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 16, 2002 at 11:00am at the Hampstead Congregational Church, Main Street, Hampstead. Burial will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hampstead Historical Society, Selectman’s Office, Town Hall, Hampstead, NH 03841 or to the charity of one’s choice. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is handling the arrangements.
