Educator, traveler, and storyteller extraordinaire, Charles (“Chuck”) B. Maul, of Meredith, NH, died unexpectedly on April 16, 2013, at the age of 67. He was predeceased by his father and mother, William D. and Netta (Kell) Maul, and his uncle, Bryce Kell, Sr., all of Millville, NJ. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Beverly Maul, their daughter, Brittany (Maul) Moscoso, and son-in-law, Carlos Moscoso, who is truly the son he’d never had. He is also survived by his aunt, Nancy Kell, his cousin, Bryce Kell and wife Tina, all of Millville, NJ, and cousin, Maureen (Kell) Hilferty and husband John, of Media, PA, as well as several in-laws, four nephews, and numerous friends who comprised his extended family.
Chuck was born and raised in Millville, NJ, and taught U.S. History and Economics for 36 years at his alma mater, Millville Senior High School. He also graduated from Glassboro State College and Fairleigh-Dickinson University. In the 1980s he became active in the Millville Education Association (MEA), serving multiple years as Chief Negotiator, President, and Grievance Chair. In these roles, he fought tirelessly for colleagues and their families.
Chuck was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of retiring to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, as well as the more recent one of RV-ing and motorcycling (and eating) his way across the United States with his partner in crime, Bev. He was thrilled when Brittany and Carlos moved to the Greater Boston area last year to be closer. He delighted in hosting any and all friends and family, introducing them to New Hampshire and “his” lake.
Chuck was passionate about many things, including education, his Harley, cars, fishing, creating stained glass artwork, constant laughter, and fighting the good fight. But above all else, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He expressed his gratitude daily for the life he was able to enjoy until the very end.
There will be a celebration of Chuck’s life on Saturday, May 4th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at the Thunderbolt Club, 706 North 8th Street, Millville, NJ. The price of admission is an entertaining story about Chuck. And come prepared to laugh – it’s what Chuck would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Wicwas Association, P.O. Box 325, Meredith, NH 03253. Chuck was an active member of this association, which works to preserve the natural state of Lake Wicwas and its wildlife.
