Joseph M. Cruz, 64, of New Bedford died Friday July 19, 2013 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antonio and Emma (Pina) Cruz, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Cruz was formerly employed as a firefighter for the New Bedford Fire Department for 15 years.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include two children, Joseph M. Cruz, Jr. of New Bedford and Rene C. Cruz of Westport; a sister, Rene Cruz Carr of Acushnet; and five grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Antonio "Buddy" Cruz.
His Committal Service with military honors will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours are omitted.
