TAUNTON - Daniel S. Chaves, husband of Maria C. (Santos) Chaves of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital on July 19, 2013.
He was 61.
Born in Santa Maria, Azores, he was the son of the late Francisco and Virginia (Soares Souza) Soares Chaves.
A Taunton resident for the past two years, he had previously resided in Dighton and Brockton.
He moved to the United States in 1980 after serving in the Portuguese Army in Santa Maria.
Employed by the Taunton Aluminum Foundry Company for almost 17 years, Mr. Chaves retired four years ago due to disability.
In his spare time, he enjoyed his home and family; and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Joao P. Chaves and his fiancé, Christine Madeira of Taunton, and Carlos M. Chaves and his fiancé Natalie Camara of Fall River; four brothers, Manuel, David, and Miguel Chaves, all of Canada, and Dinis Chaves of Florida; a sister, Celeste Freitas of Canada; four grandchildren, Marshel, Christian, and Alexis Chaves, all of Taunton, Jeslyn Chaves of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Herculano Chaves.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, July 23rd at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 22nd from 5 to 8 pm.
