Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Joann (St. Pierre) Masaitis, 70, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 11, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Country Estates in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on September 14, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Edmour H. and Dorothy R. (Malone) St. Pierre. She was raised in California before returning to Springfield around 1960, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was the co-owner for the past nine years of the Country Kettle Restaurant on Broadway Street in Chicopee Falls. Joann truly enjoyed her restaurant where she met many of her old customers and made many new friends. She leaves her four loving children, Joann “Dodie” Bourassa and her husband, Dan Thorpe, and Beth-Anne Lamoureaux, all of Springfield, Gilbert Lamoureaux and his partner, Jonathan Dean, of Niantic, CT, and Suzanne Lamoureaux and her partner, Bobby Lindsey, of Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren, Nicole Bourassa, Ryan Thorpe, Marina Mathur, Michael Giacometti and Alexis Giacometti; her three cherished great-grandchildren, Alexander, Gabriella and Anthony; and her loving companion, Jim Plankey, of Springfield. Her family would like to thank Dr. Philip Glynn, the staff at the Sister Caritas Cancer Center, Noble Visiting Nurse and Hospice, and Country Estates in Agawam for their excellent care and compassion over the past several months during her long journey home. At Joann’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Her family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her memory to the Noble Visiting Nurse and Hospice, Inc., 77 Mill Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
