Obituary

Jim Carter, 64, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Steve O’Neal officiating.

Mr. Carter was born November 28, 1948, in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Edward Lawrence Ezekiel Carter and the late Sarah Ann Moorefield Carter. He served in the United States Army being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. He lived in the community for the past 13 years moving from Pelham, Georgia. He had a long career in law enforcement working for the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s office and police departments in Fitzgerald and Pelham. He also served as Chief of Police in Abbeville and Willacoochee and was a corrections officer at Reidsville State Prison. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, lifting weights and boxing, which he did while he was stationed in Germany.

He is survived by a son: Jason Carter and fiancée Alynna of Bonney Lake, Washington; two brothers: Eddie, Jr. & Betty Carter of Dothan, Alabama and David and Cherry Carter of Tifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James “Jimmy” Carter, Jr.
