CHICOPEE - James M. “Jim” Simpson, of Doverbrook Estates in Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a lengthy illness that he battled with rare courage and dignity. He was born in Springfield, a beloved son of the late James and Anne (MacDonald) Simpson. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Saint Jerome High School and Holyoke Community College, and was a resident of Chicopee for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed for 30 years as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service and had worked at the Holyoke Post Office and the Bulk Mail Center in Springfield. He was a voracious reader with a quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed hiking the Notch Trails and visiting the South Shore beaches. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving brother, George R. Simpson who was Called Home on August 19, 1988. Jim leaves his loving sister and brother law, Mary A. “Millie” Walsh and Richard Walsh; and his many dear relatives, good friends and neighbors. His Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be private in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
