BOSTON … Roger G. Martel, 74, of Fall River passed away, Sunday, July 7, 2013 after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Valerie L. (Fernandes) Martel.
He died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
He was born in Fall River a son of the late Rosario and Georgette (Tardiff) Martel and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Mr. Martel was employed by SERTA as a Bus Driver retiring in 2003 after 25 years.
Mr. Martel served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church where he sang in the choir, taught C.C.D., and now a communicant of St. Bernadette’s Parish, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River. He volunteered for many Gift Retreat Weekends with St. Anne’s Church and coached little league for over 20 years with Dumont Little League. He enjoyed spending time with his family, had a great sense of humor, and was kind and gentle. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved to cook.
Survivors include his wife, 3 Sons: Kevin P. Martel, Jeffrey P. Martel, Alan A. Martel and his wife all of Fall River, 2 Daughters: Lisa A. Beaudry and her husband Kenneth of Somerset and Kerry A. O’Hara and her husband Daniel of Cranston, 2 Brothers: Robert Martel of Assonet and Richard Martel of Fall River, 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Victor Martel, Pauline Couture, and Irene Bruneau.
Funeral to which relatives and friend are invited will be held Friday at 8:00 A.M. from the SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM at St Bernadette’s Parish, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours will be Thursday 6-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American
