MEDFORD: Virginia L. “Ginny” (MacDonald) Forcina, 86, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2013 at her residence. She was the loving wife of the late Francis A. Forcina who died in 2008.
Born in Boston on June 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Thelma (MacDonald) MacDonald. Ginny has been a resident of Medford since 1963 and had previously resided in Somerville. She was a graduate of South Boston High School.
She worked at the Clinique make-up counter as a sales associate for Filene's for many years. Ginny was the former past president of the Ladies Auxiliary - Logan Post #6800 of Somerville and spent many years working as a volunteer in the gift shop at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was an active woman who enjoyed music, dancing and watching the Red Sox. Ginny and her husband enjoyed being together and spent a lot of time swimming and walking. She had a fondness for children and especially relished the time she spent with her two great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jack.
Ginny is survived by her two loving daughters, Cheryl Standley of Hamilton and Carla Carroll and her husband Maury of Medford; four grandchildren, Joanna Duggan and her husband Neil, and Lesley, Jill and Maury Carroll; two great-grandchildren, Nicole Carroll and Jack Duggan. She was also predeceased by her siblings and her son-in-law, Frank Standley.
A funeral Mass for Ginny was celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 118 High St., Medford at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in the Beals-Geake Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford, from 4 – 8 PM. Many relatives and friends of Ginny’s were in attendance. Interment was held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ginny’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
