Jimmie R. Price, 73, of Mattapoisett died March 11, 2002 at home.
He was the husband of Kathryn A. (Botts) Price and the late Jeanne C. (Pimental) Price, and son of the late George S. and Sarah E. (Roach) Price.
Mr. Price was born in Trion, GA and has resided in Mattapoisett since 1965. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
He was formerly employed by Teledyne Rodney Metals as a Junior Industrial Engineer and was later prompted to Personell Manager. He later worked for Titleist in Escondido, Cal., as Manager of Industrial Relations until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Price served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard a destroyer in the North Atlantic with a Sub Task Force assisting troop and equipment convoys to Europe. Mr. Price later enlisted in the US Army serving in the Far East. He served in the Korean War participating in 5 major battle campaigns. During his second tour of duty in Korea, he was appointed as aide-de-camp to Lieutenant General John Ryan.
He was a recipient of the Army Occupation of Japan medal, the Korean Service medal with 5 bronze stars, the National Defense Service medal, the Army Aviator badge, the Air medal, the senior Army Aviator badge and 2 Good Conduct medals.Mr. Price was a graduate of military flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama and served as a helicopter pilot until his retirement in 1965. He served in the California National Guard and was awarded the California National Guard Commendation Ribbon with Pendent from the Governor of California.
Mr. Price was a member of the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett and the Knights of Columbus-Damien Council in Mattapoisett. He enjoyed fishing, sailing to the islands and flying with friends.
Survivors include his wife; 7 sons, Thomas O. Price of Fredericksburg, VA, David D. Price of Temecula, CA, Frank G. Price of Rowley, James D. Price and Timothy J. Price, both of Mattapoisett, and Steven C. Long and William C. Long, both of Vista, CA; 3 daughters, Theresa A. Price of Escondido, CA, Susan E. Long of Santa Fe, NM and Deborah K. Morning Star of Mattapoisett; a brother, Robert D. Price of Trion, GA; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; .
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Thursday, March 14th at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Wednesday, March 13th from 4-7 PM.
Interment with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery will be private.
