
Boylston – Mary (Grecho) Nicholas, 98, of Boylston, passed away Thursday, July 4th, in UMass Memorial Hospital – University Campus.
Mrs. Nicholas was married for 60 years to George C. Nicholas who died in 2010. She is survived by a son Richard G. Nicholas of Boylston; a daughter Dorothy Stockmal and her husband Jonathan C. of Worcester; a granddaughter Sandra Emerson of Paxton and a great granddaughter Avery Emerson.
Mary was born in Boboshtica, Albania, daughter of the late Louis and Gliqiria (Xhufka) Christi, and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1932 and lived in New York City for 20 years before moving to the Worcester area.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church.
She was talented and had great artistic ability and made intricate and beautiful works of needlepoint, lacework and many other handmade items. Mrs. Nicholas was a well-versed woman, and she was able to speak 6 languages. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to all who had a role in both Mary and her husband George’s long, healthy and happy lives.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 10th at 10 AM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are on Tuesday, July 9th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
