Obituary


Lehigh Acres, Florida----William H. Blackwood, 68, of Lehigh Acres, Florida and formerly of Sanbornton, N.H., died at the Spartenburg Medical Center in Spartenburg, S. C. on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Mr. Blackwood was born June 12, 1945 in East Orange, New Jersey, the son of Melville J. and Leola May (Halsey) Blackwood. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Blackwood resided in Sanbornton for 30 years. William and his wife also summered in Columbus, North Carolina. He had been employed at Home Depot before retiring on June 18, 2010. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his mother of Walnut Creek, CA, survivors include his wife of 30 years, Ruby A. (Tibbetts) Blackwood, of Lehigh Acres, Florida, a daughter, Tabitha (Blackwood) Mascarelli and her husband Marc of Fort Myers, FL, a step-son, Walter Varrell, of Florida, two grandchildren; Zachary and Bryson, and a sister, Barbara Blake, of Walnut Creek, CA, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in 2014.
