Obituary

Joseph E. Mahoney, a life-long Medford resident, died Wednesday after a brief illness at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. He was 75.

Joseph was the 13th child of the late Thomas “Hallie” and Florence “Flo” (Lucia) Mahoney. Joe graduated from St. Joseph School in Medford, Malden Catholic High School, attended Providence College and graduated from Bentley College. He proudly served in the US Army Reserve and became a partner in the prominent accounting firm, Mahoney and Fiorentino. Joseph worked as a certified public accountant throughout his life. He was also active in civic and charitable affairs in Medford and was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. A longtime member of the Medford Rotary Club, he was a benefactor to St. Joseph School and his alma mater, Malden Catholic, where he was a three sport all-star, in Baseball, Football and Basketball. He enjoyed golf and was a long-time member of the Salem Country Club.

The beloved husband of Antoinette “Ann” (Cardarelli), with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, Joseph was a devoted father to Joseph E Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Stoneham, Charles H. Mahoney and his wife Stephanie of Tewksbury. He leaves his loving grandchildren: Lindsey, Allie, Casey, Rachel and Abby. The brother of Paul Mahoney and his wife MaryAnn of Medford, Charles P. Mahoney of E. Falmouth and his late wife Paula and the late Ruth O’Brien, Frances DeMasi, Joan Mahoney, Phyllis Mahoney, Virginia Fennelly, Florence Petronio, Jean Clark, Barbara Edgerly, Thomas "Bud" Mahoney and James Mahoney, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Sunday July 7th from three through 8 PM and again on Monday Morning at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10:30. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Joseph’s name to the Mahoney Scholarships at St. Joseph School, 132 High St. Medford, MA 02155 or Malden Catholic High School, 99 Crystal St. Malden, MA 02148.
