Obituary

Geraldine “Granny” Carter, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her son’s residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Wray Holiness Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Willingham and the Rev. Gene Chaney officiating. Interment will follow in the Wray Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Carter was born August 9, 1940 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Hiram and Alva Mae Powell Fowler. She had lived in the community since 1975. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Carter’s Fried Chicken for the past 38 years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and “Granny” to all the kids that ate in her restaurant. Mrs. Carter was a member of Wray Holiness Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Roosevelt “Boots” Carter of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law: Nathan & Lisa Carter of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law: Denise & Walt Dockery of Broxton; grandchildren: Matthew Cauley, Lucas Carter, Candi Musgrove, and Chance Collins; great-grandchildren: Daylon Cauley, Braydon Musgrove, Candon Musgrove, and Aydon Musgrove; and one brother: A.G. Fowler of Waycross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson: Mark Cauley; two brothers: Bud Fowler and Lowrell Fowler; and three sisters: Thelma Vickers, Irene Carver, and Eurtis Cottrell.
