SALEM - Feliksa “Phyllis” Mieszczanski, 86, of Salem, died Saturday morning, June 29, 2013 as a result of injuries received from being struck by a motor vehicle in front of her home.
Born in Kadysz, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Michal and Ludwika (Hrynaszkiewicz) Mieszczanski. She came to the United States with her family in the mid 1960's and settled in Salem.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Parker Bros. Games in Salem for over 20 years.
A communicant of the St. John the Baptist Church, Salem, she sang in the choir and was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.
Phyllis is survived by one sister, Leokadia “Laura” Mieszczanski of Salem, and with whom she resided. She also leaves 9 nieces and nephews, Theresa Zak, Dr. Stanley J. Burba, Krystyna Reksc, Laura Mikulewicz, Christopher Mieszczanski, Richard Mieszczanski, Wanda King, Linda Sylvestri, Waldek Prochorski and many grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late Feliks Mieszczanski, Joseph Mieszczanski, Stanislaw “Stanley” Mieszczanski, Wladyslawa “Alice” Burba, Franciszka “Frances” Prochorski, and Maria Mikulewicz. She was also predeceased by one nephew, Frank S. Burba and one grand nephew, David Aaron King.
Feliksa was very dedicated to her gardening. Family, friends and neighbors enjoyed her organically-grown vegetables and fruits throughout the season; her immaculate yardspace is affectionately known as the Mieszczanski Victory Garden. Though her gardening skills were exceptional, Feliksa’s favorite hobby was handcrafting with needlepoint. Throughout her life, she created innumerous decorative tablecloths, throws, duvets and pillows. With a needle & thread, her talent and passion were superlative. She was a true artist.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 8:45 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at the St. John the Baptist Church, 28 St. Peter St., Salem. Visiting hours are Saturday, from 4 to 7 PM and Sunday, from 3 to 7 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
