John Michael Bylo

died June 27, 2013 in Los Angeles

John Michael Bylo was a man of strength and integrity who passed away on June 27th at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife Deborah Bylo, daughters Jessica Chacon and Catherine Leys, sons-in-law Scott Chacon and Stephen Leys, and grandchildren Josephine Chacon, Gwyneth and Theodore Leys, extended family, and friends in the faith.
John was first and foremost a family man. He supported and celebrated the achievements of his family and cherished the relationships he created with each of them. He was personable, humble, loyal, and shared joy in the accomplishments of others. John was dedicated to lifelong personal development, growth and education.
He was a craftsman, artist and avid book-collector. He appreciated beauty wherever he found it. He believed in hard work, attention to detail, and enjoyed carpentry, sculpture, drawing, and book-binding. John loved to teach, sharing his knowledge and growing relationships through collaboration and discussion. Always the first to volunteer help when he saw a need, he wasn’t afraid of getting dirty or working hard.
John enjoyed travel, nature, beauty, art and architecture. He touched down in Asia, Latin America, Alaska, Europe and introduced his daughters to the grandeur of the American West and a love of physical activity and the outdoors.
John served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was educated at the University of California, Riverside. After graduating he worked in technical illustration and later as a civilian employee for the government. After retiring from the civil service, as a logistics and packaging designer for the Department of the Navy, John studied to become a volunteer cleric for St. George Anglican Church in Ventura.
Donations in memorial to Project Understanding in Ventura and the American Cancer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
St. George Anglican Church will hold a memorial service
in the chapel of the 7th Day Adventist Church 6300 Telephone Road Ventura on Sunday August 11th at 10:30AM.
