James E. Desmond
Retired Murray Printing-Courier Press Lead Offset Cameraman
TEWKSBURY: James E. Desmond, age 83, a 50 year resident of Tewksbury, formerly of Reading, passed away at home on Saturday, June, 22, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline J. (Martin) Desmond, who passed away February 6, 2007.
Born in Reading on May 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Daniel J. Desmond and the late Helen (Terrill) Desmond.
James was raised in Reading, attended Reading schools and graduated from Reading High School. He also attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Korean Service Medal and Commendation Ribbon.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed for 35 years as the Lead Offset Cameraman for Murray Printing-Courier Press Co.
James enjoyed the beach and a recreational round of golf on the putting green, but most of all, he enjoyed his time with his family.
In earlier years, he was a member of the American Legion.
James is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Desmond Parsons and her husband John of Dracut and Deborah Desmond Meserve and her husband Robert of Kennebunk, ME; two grandsons, John Ryan Parsons and Spencer James Parsons, both of Dracut; three brothers, Terrence Desmond of Wilmington, Brian Desmond of Reading, and Michael Desmond and his wife Anne of Wilmington; two sisters, Gael Desmond of Reading and Sheila Fortunata and her husband Felix of Tewksbury; his sister-in-law, Mary Desmond of Longmeadow; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 27, from 4-8 p.m., in the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home.
