Mary T. (McGovern) Connell, age 84, of Mansfield passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Connell who died on August 8, 1989.
Born in Boston, MA on January 6, 1929, she was a dear daughter of the late Michael and Annie (Doherty) McGovern. She grew up in Brookline where she was educated in parochial schools and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
Mr. Connell was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family and when younger had worked for the John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 55 years, Mary was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was happiest when in the presence of family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted children, Michael Connell of Mansfield, Timothy Connell of Pawtucket, RI, Susan M. Scott of Taunton and the late Joseph Connell who passed away on April 14, 2012. She was the sister of Helen Delaney of Weymouth and the late John McGovern and Elizabth Hastings, and is also survived by her 6 cherished grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 8:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 28th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
