Michael E. Clifford, 49, of Worcester died Tuesday, June 18th in UMass Memorial Hospital, University Campus after a brief illness. He is survived by his son, Michael E. Clifford, Jr., of Worcester; two daughters, Kira L. Murphy and her husband, Patrick of Worcester and Brittany L. Clifford of Charlton, his mother, Mary E. (O’Donnell) Clifford of Worcester; a brother, Bernard D. Clifford, Jr. and his wife, Robin of Wilbraham; four sisters, Suzanne Gicas and her husband, Stephen, MaryEllen Clifford, Amy K. Kelly and her partner, James Okerberg and Callie J. Clifford all of Worcester, his grandson Patrick J. Murphy, Jr. and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester; his father was the late Bernard D. Clifford, Sr. Michael had been a correctional officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts working at MCI Framingham; and was a proud member of the Massachusetts Correctional Officers Federated Union. He enjoyed the beach, fishing and working on cars; but most especially time spent with his family.
The family expresses the heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at UMass Memorial for the extraordinary care Michael received and to the members of the Massachusetts Correctional Officers Federated Union for their unending help and support over the past few weeks.
His funeral is Saturday, June, 22nd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Friday, June 21st from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
