Obituary

John J. Mulligan, 77, of New Bedford died June 18, 2013 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Rita S. (Gwozdz) Mulligan.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Daniel A. and Anna (Lehner) Mulligan, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Mulligan was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
He was formerly employed as a fire fighter with the New Bedford Fire Department for 32 years retiring as Captain.
Mr. Mulligan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 and a former member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Greater New Bedford Track Club.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Daniel Mulligan of New Bedford and Thomas Mulligan and his wife Kellie of Tampa, FL; a daughter, Kathleen Patrick and her husband Bruce of Lakeville; 5 grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary and Abigail Mulligan, Cameron and Andrew Patrick.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, June 21st at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 20th from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114 or to the Schwartz Center for Children, One Posa Place, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
