Obituary

Elizabeth (Johnson) Clark, 87, passed away peacefully at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, on June 15, 2013. The daughter of the late Victor T. and Mildred C. (Perry) Johnson, Elizabeth lived in Worcester until her family moved to Springfield, Vermont in the late 1930’s. She graduated in the class of 1944 from Springfield High School where her activities included being the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and yearbook. She went on to graduate from St. Luke’s Hospital Nursing School, New York City during which time she met and married John Allen Clark. During their marriage John served in the Army for over 20 years, and the Clark family moved over 20 times before settling in Bedford, MA. Elizabeth worked for MA Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 20 years and then retired enjoying summers on Cape Cod and winters in Gulfport, FL. They moved to Briarwood in Worcester in 2007 and were married for 63 years before John’s death in 2009.

Elizabeth had a wide range of interests and was an extremely talented cook, needlework artist and an avid reader. She was a very active member of the Briarwood Community serving on many committees and regularly contributing articles to the monthly newsletter. One of her proudest accomplishments in recent years was starting Briarwood’s Pie Social, which offered fellow residents a chance to show off their baking skills and raised money on behalf of the Worcester Food Bank.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her sons and their wives, Bob and Pat of Palm Harbor, FL; Bill and Bernice of Thetford Center, VT; and Pete and Diane of Dracut, MA; as well as her grandchildren, Brad, Katie, Sam, Josh and Carole Clark and her great-granddaughter, Averie Clark. She will also be fondly remembered by many good friends from the Briarwood Community, Cape Cod, and Florida.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 20, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held at 10am immediately followed by the funeral at 11am. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Briarwood Residents Association, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester MA 01606.
