Grandfather of Evelyn Marie Mulcahy and her husband John Todd, John Francis, Rebecca Anne, Holly Elizabeth and Michael James. Great grandfather of Bettina Marie. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Thursday, June 20th. at 9am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa Chapel at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-6 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Blue Hills Cemetery. James was a WW II Veteran spending more than three years in the Army Air Force with most of his service in the China, Burma and India theater. He spent 49 years as a Newspaperman in Boston. Besides his news career he was well known for his 25 years of voluntary service with the Boy Scouts of America. He served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and Explorer Adviser as well as conductor of Roundtable training sessions for Cub Scout leaders and Den Mothers. For his service he received the Scoutmaster’s Key, the Silver Beaver from the National Council and the Catholic Youth Organization’s St. George Medal. James’ news career began as office boy with the United Press where he worked up to be night New England manager. He moved from there to the Boston Traveler where he was news editor. He also worked for the Boston Herald, specializing in special historical supplements and at the Boston Globe’s financial department.
