SALEM- Dorothy E. Gustafson, 87, of Salem, died Thursday morning in a local nursing home following a long illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Adolf F. and Evelyn A. (Johansson) Gustafson and was a lifelong resident of the city. She attended Salem Normal School and received her degree in education from Boston University.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an elementary teacher for 32 years in the Salem school system, mostly at the former Bowditch School. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
Miss Gustafson was a lifelong member of the Tabernacle Congregational Church UCC, and was a member of the Quest for Beauty Club and the Woman’s Friend Society, all of Salem.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Evelyn “Sue” Gustafson of Nokomis, Florida and several cousins. She was the sister of the late Adolf W. Gustafson.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 at 11 am in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
