Dorothy M. Medeiros, 74, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Saturday June 15, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Royal Taber Street Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Ezequiel P. and Olivia S. (Carreira) Medeiros, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church her entire life up until her recent illness when she transferred to St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Dorothy was formerly employed by St. Luke's Hospital in the Surgicenter for 34 years until her retirement. She was a member of the St. Luke's Retirees Club.
Her family and friends wish to thank the Dartmouth Community Nurses, the staff at Royal Taber, and Fidelis Hospice Care of Fall River for their loving care and support. Dorothy in particular wished to share the following thoughts, "I am forever grateful to my two best friends, Lucille "my buddy" and Valerie for their unwavering friendship throughout the years. They have been my rock." "Thank you to Joyce, Ruth, and Carol for your loving show of compassion and support. I truly have been blessed with the very best of friends."
She is survived by a sister, Natalie Ketchie and her husband Harold of Wareham; two brothers, Ronald Medeiros and his wife Janice of New Bedford and Daniel Medeiros and his wife Patricia of Dartmouth; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several close friends who have stood by her through this journey.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
