
SALEM- Todd A. Phipps, 48, of Gloucester, formerly of Salem, was stricken at work and died on Tuesday, August 10, 2004.
Born in Salem, he was the son Phyllis (Rook) Phipps of Clermont, Florida and the late Charles H. Phipps.
Mr. Phipps was employed as a department administrator in biomedical research at Northeastern University in Boston. He was previously employed as a psychiatric social worker at Beverly Hospital, Beverly for many years.
A graduate of Salem High School in 1974, he received his bachelors degree from Nasson College in Springvale, Maine in 1978 and his masters degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981.
A resident of Gloucester for the past 15 years, he was a member and church organist at the First Universalist Church Salem, and had been a member and organist at the First Universalist Church in Essex for the past 5 years. He was a member of the Salem Maritime Society.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Steven C. Phipps and his wife Eileen Walsh-Phipps, David C. Phipps all of Salem, and two nieces, Emily Phipps and Sarah Phipps, both of Salem.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 22, 2004 at 11 am at the First Universalist Church, 211 Bridge Street, Salem, MA 01970. (978-744-3224) Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Directions to Church from Route 128: From Route. 128 NORTH, take Exit 25A (RT. 114 EAST). Follow RT. 114 through Peabody into Salem. From the Salem Line, continue on RT. 114(North Street) for 3/4 to 1 mile until you go up on a bridge or overpass. Stay in right lane and take the off ramp on right marked RT. 107 NORTH. At STOP sign Go RIGHT onto RT. 107 NORTH (Bridge Street). Go under bridge. Continue Straight through a pedestrian crossing (with overhead blinking yellow lights) and a small rotary on RT. 107 NORTH, right after the rotary, on Route 107, Bridge Street, you will see a large brick church on your right. #211 Bridge Street. This is the back of the church. To find public parking, continue on Bridge Street to the next right, St. Peter Street. Take the right and the first right onto Federal Street and enter the parking area on your left. Across the street from the lot entrance, is a small courtyard/walkway that leads to the front of the church.
