Somerset-Holroyd, Barbara 81 of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Everett, MA and Bronx, NY passed away on June 10, 2013. She has been a resident of Scottsdale, AZ for the last 18 years. Barbara was born in Everett and resided their, until she was married, at which time she moved to Beverly. She graduated Everett High School, Class of 1948. Barbara resided in Hamden, CT for 15 years and Bronx, NY for 15 years. She was a long time customer service representative for the Consolidated Edison Company.
Barbara raised her children and was very active in all of their lives. Barbara was a den leader for her daughters Girl Scout Troops and a den leader for her son’s Cub Scout Troop. Barbara was a member of Hadassah and the Eastern Star. Barbara was an avid baseball fan, she enjoyed attending baseball games with her son and grandson. She enjoyed playing mahjong, she enjoyed to travel, she was an international penpal and spending time with her family. She loved Brigham's Ice Cream. Barbara treasured her time with her youngest child, Michael before he went to school. She especially enjoyed her conversations with her grand-kitty Chrissy. Barbara was a very compassionate person and an extremely good listener when someone needed a person to talk to. These qualities were very important during her volunteerism as a buddy for senior citizens.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Maurice Holroyd. She was the devoted mother of Cheri Lefkowitch and her husband Martin, Lynn Ginsberg, and Michael Ginsberg. She was the loving daughter of the late Frank and Ida Somerset. Barbara was the dear sister of the late Mark Somerset. She was the loving grandmother of Scott, Johnathan, and Lara. She is also survived by her grand-kitty Chrissy.
Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave., Cary Sq., Chelsea on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472. .
