ROBERT J. FIBKINS , age 68, of Marshfield, died on Tuesday, Aug. 17th at the Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. Mr. Fibins was born in Enfield, Connecticut and was a longtime resident of the town of Hull, where he was active in community affairs. He was a member of the first graduating class of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree in 1953. He went on to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees at Harvard University and served in the U.S. Army in the mid 1950's before entering the business world. Mr Fibkins held a number of leadership positions in the publishing field among them serving as an editor of Time Magazine and The New Republic; and publisher of Sail and Horticulture Magazines. He was also the owner, editor and publisher of Garden Magazine.Son of the late William J. and the late Jean E. (Helmar) Fibkins, he leaves his sister, Kathryn A. Jacobs of Hull and two brothers; William L. Fibkins of Peconic, NY and Paul F. Fibkins of Paramus, NJ. Also survived by 6 nephews, 5 grandnieces and 3 grand-nephews.A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 20th at 10 AM at St. Ann's Church, corner of Lewis St. and Samoset Ave., Hull.Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.The interment will be private at a late date.
