Walter Woodrow Miller passed away on June 4, 2013 at Saint Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson. He had been born on July 10, 1915 in York Springs, PA to Harvey Wilson and Josie (Dentler) Miller.
On June 28, 1947, he was united in marriage with Mary (Cima) Miller.
He was a graduate of York Springs High School and Carlisle Commercial College. He also attended Iowa State University and Anderson College before receiving a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Later, he took training to become a linotype operator, which in 1956 led him to employment at The Gospel Trumpet Company (later Warner Press).
Survivors include his son, Russell of Anderson; daughter and husband, Denyse & H. Allen Thorpe of Indianapolis; granddaughter & husband, Jennifer M. & Adam Neise of Noblesville; grandson Josh Miller of Fishers; granddaughter, Julia Thorpe of Indianapolis. Great grandchildren include Gabe & Ella Neise and Caden & McKenzie Miller. He is also survived by his sister & brother-in-law, Lois & Vern Forsberg of Boiling Springs, PA; his brother-in-law & wife, Norman & Phyllis Cima of Menlo Park, CA; and by 7 nieces and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and sister-in-law Dru C. Bose; & sister-in-law & brother-in-law, June & Carl Olson.
Walter was a life long learner and lover of peace who enjoyed reading, keeping a diary for 76 years, Bible study, prayer groups, and volunteering for Contact Help, and Life Enrichment classes at Park Place COG.
Walter retired from Warner Press in 1979. He was an active member of East Side Church of God where he taught Sunday School, served on various boards & committees, and was involved in the Lamplighters Sunday School Class. In the past two years, he’d also been actively involved in Bible studies and services at Madison Park Church while still attending Sunday School at East Side.
He was also a member of the Church of God Peace Fellowship and the Madison County Historical Society.
Viewing will be on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 from 12:30-2:30pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Following will be a memorial at 2:30pm. There will be no graveside ceremony.
Because of Walt’s love for education and life long learning, in lieu of flowers, donations to The John and Julia Cima Endowed Scholarship, which was established in memory of his in-laws would be a tribute to his memory as it would continue to support students pursuing higher education.
