Margaret Craig
1913 - 2013
Born February 3, 1913 in Boston, MA, Margaret (affectionately known as Peg or Peggy) was the first daughter and fourth child born to Charles H. Drew and Margaret L. (Hurney) Drew, both of Boston, MA. She died June 2, 2013 at the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, NH.
Peg was the fourth of seven children in her family. She lived in Boston, MA most of her life, and was brought up in the Roman Catholic faith. Her father, who was not Catholic, worked as a brush maker for the Whiting Brush Company in Boston.
Peg worked for many years, and especially enjoyed her long career at Franklin Simon, an upscale clothing store, in Chestnut Hill, MA. During World War II, Peggy had an interesting career making polarized lenses for military operational use. She was married to Harry D. Craig, who died in 1985. Together they enjoyed an active social life with friends and co-workers, spending many summer weekends on the south shore of Boston, and later, during vacations in Wells, Maine. From 1956 through 1966 she and Harry summered in Wonalancet, NH with her sister Ruth Goodall, her brother-in-law "Pete" Goodall, and their four children.
In 1977 Peggy moved to Meredith, NH where she lived until the time of her death. She lived alone for twenty-three years after her husband died. She resided at the Golden View Health Care Center for the last four years of her life.
Peggy loved people, shopping for "bargains", and giving generously of her time and affection to her nieces and nephews. Her optimism, positive outlook, and cheerful disposition endeared her to all who knew her.
A private burial will take place during the coming summer.
