Pasquale E. Sbardella, 83, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Philomena (Santos) Sbardella.
Born and raised in Fall River, the son of late Angelo and Matilda (Manes) Sbardella, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. Mr. Sbardella was employed as an architect/ draftsman at Dyrelite Mopanco Co. in New Bedford until his retirement in 2007.
He was an active member of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. During the Korean War, while serving in Japan, he was a member of General MacArthur’s personal band. He was the recipient of the Occupation of Japan medal, Korean Service medal and a Bronze Star. Following active duty he was a member of the 215th National Guard Army Band of Fall River for over 16 years.
He enjoyed camping, gardening, stamp collecting, woodworking, photography, cake decorating and consistently “shellacking” family and friends at cards and games.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; his 5 children, Susan, Tony and his wife Cheryl, Paul and his wife Barbara, Maria "Ria" and her husband David Clough, Teresa and her husband Blaine; his 5 grandchildren, Anthony Jr. and his wife Heather, Keven, Christopher Barros, Emmitt and Gabrielle; his 5 great grandchildren: "Julian" Jillian, Morgan, Bailey, Emily and Corey along with 7 nieces and 1 nephew. His honorary son, John Jennings, also survives him.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, June 6th at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, June 5th from 4-8 PM.
