Elinor "Ellie" C. (McLeod) Beanland, 88, of South Dartmouth died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the wife of the late David Beanland.
Born in Middleboro, July 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George McLeod and Dorothy (Isackson) McLeod. She lived in South Dartmouth for many years and was a long-time member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth.
She was a graduate of Memorial High School in Middleboro and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She spent most of her 42-year nursing career at St. Luke’s in Pediatrics where she became the well-known Supervisor of the Lumbard Children’s Ward. She will long be remembered for her outstanding contributions to the Hospital and for the special caring she gave to so many people. Ellie was a warm and loving person with a sense of humor who would go to great lengths to make people happy, especially children. She had many friends and wonderful neighbors who were very special to her.
She was a member of the St. Luke’s Retirees Club, St. Luke’s Volunteers, St. Luke’s Auxiliary and the New Bedford Garden Club. Ellie enjoyed gardening, arts & crafts, creating floral arrangements, entertaining and traveling throughout this country and Europe.
She is survived by her dear niece, Phyllis Ripley of Tucson, AZ and her nephew, George B. McLeod, of Benson, AZ. She also leaves her loving “caregivers,” William M. Harrop and Hilda Harrop, of Mattapoisett, MA.
She was the sister of the late George Collin McLeod and Phyllis McLeod.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10 AM at the he Congregational Church of South Dartmouth, 17 Middle St. South Dartmouth, MA.
