Marylyn (Haynes) Burke, 87, of Medway, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Timothy Daniels House in Holliston. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert of 65 years whom she married in 1947 in Natick and her adoring daughter Andrea of Franklin, both of whom loved her very much.
Born in Natick on March 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harold M. and Esther M. (Lund) Haynes. She was predeceased by her sister Priscilla who died in 1961.
Marylyn received her early schooling at the Nathan Rice Country School, a historic school, where 3-4 generations of her family had also attended. In 1943 she graduated from Natick High School where she was active in many clubs and school activities. After graduation, she served on class reunion committees and never missed one. She also participated and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross during WWII.
Marylyn worked for the Roger W. Babson Investment Counseling Service Co. During the many conferences held there, she was a representative for the sales department and was the advisory source for the many salespeople.
She left Babson in 1955 when she became a mother. When she returned to a new career, she worked at the Medway Cooperative Bank, now known as Charles River Bank.
Marylyn was also a graduate of the U.S. School of Music and entertained her family and friends with her beautiful singing voice and piano playing. She also loved writing, walking and the many happy times over the years with her family and friends. Her notes, poems and correspondences were a highlight to whom they were sent and they always looked forward to receiving them with great pleasure.
She and Bob walked every day in Medway in all kinds of weather and was a familiar couple to all who saw them walking.
She was very active in the local girl scouts and was appointed by the Bay Path Newton Colonial Girl Scouts Council to the position of Community Resource Coordinator for the Town of Medway.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com). Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
