Obituary

Henry "Hank" Silva, 86, of New Bedford passed away Saturday May 25, 2013 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the beloved husband of Terry (Simmons) Silva.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Adolph and Mary (Silva) Silva, he lived in Fairhaven and New Bedford for many years.

He attended the First Church of the Nazarene, where he served as an usher.

Mr. Silva was formerly employed as a custodian for the New Bedford Free Public Library until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Albany.

He was an avid sports fan and in his younger days he was an avid baseball player. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his willingness to always be available to help those in need.

His family would like to thank New England Hospice and Brandon Woods of Dartmouth for the excellent care given to Hank during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Terry; his daughter, Marguerite Collins; his grandson, Nicholas Collins; and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

He was the brother of the late Margaret Medeiros and Mary Faria.

A service in his memory will be held on Sunday June 2, 2013 at 10:45 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene. Visiting hours are omitted. A private family burial service will be held in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford, MA 02740.
