CHANG, Virginia Wang of Weston, MA on May 20, 2013 at the age of 87. Cherished wife of the late Hu Lin Chang. Beloved mother of Dr. Grace Chang and her husband Dr. Rory Browne, and Dr. Michael Chang, all of Weston.
Born in Tianjin, China on June 2, 1925 she came to the US for her education in 1947. Educated at the College of New Rochelle (BA) and St. John’s University (MA), she was the first female broadcaster in the Mandarin Division of the Voice of America (USIA) in the 1950s. Working in New York and Washington, DC, she was soon promoted to be the Division’s Assistant Chief. After her marriage, she continued to work as a freelance journalist for the USIA and pursued her love of literature, current affairs, and scholarship by earning a Master’s degree in Library Science from Columbia University. She subsequently worked as a librarian at the New York Public Library, East Brunswick (NJ) Public Schools, and after moving to Weston in 1985, the Lincoln (MA) Public Library.
