Joseph Camara, 70, of New Bedford died Friday August 13, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Arlene B. (Pike) Camara.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gracia) Camara, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Camara was formerly employed as a baker at Stop & Shop in Orleans and Dartmouth.
Mr. Camara served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531. He worked for the American Red Cross Disaster Team for many years and drove an ambulance for the Civil Defense. He enjoyed baseball, football, and basketball, especially the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Shawn Cromwell of Beverly; a sister, Catherine Correia of South Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edmund Camara, Mary Camara, Marjorie Singleton and Raymond Camara.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday August 16, 2004 at 8:30 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours Monday 5-8:30 PM, prior to the Service.
