Albert A. Silva, 92, of New Bedford died Thursday August 12, 2004 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility. He was the husband of Norma M. (Sevigny) Silva.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Medeiros) Silva, he had lived in Dartmouth for most of his life before returning to live in New Bedford in 1990.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.
Mr. Silva was formerly employed as an insurance adjuster for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company for 30 years until his retirement. He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, Hebron Academy, and New Bedford Textile Institute, and later attended Boston University.
He was a former member of the Country Club of New Bedford and the Southeastern Massachusetts Claims Managers Association. He was a charter member and former President of the Dartmouth Lions Club.
During World War II, Mr. Silva served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Roberta K. Harrison and her husband John of New Bedford; a son, Mark S. Silva and his wife Diane Fitzpatrick of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, John Harrison, IV, and Alexander Paul Harrison; and his maternal aunt, Olive Goulart of New Bedford.
