Mary L. (Evans) Burt of Stoughton, a homemaker and mother who was always willing to listen and lend a hand, passed away after a prolonged illness on Tuesday May 21, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was 82 years old.
Mrs. Burt is survived by her children, Mildred D. Anderson of Providence, Rhode Island, Alice L. Kubacki and her husband Michael of York, Maine, Joyce E. Henderson and her husband Mark of Canton, Massachusetts, her 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren,5 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, her beloved sister-in-law Delores Evans and her extended family in Virginia. Mary was also a mother to the late Shirley Allen and a sister to the late Dorothy Hinton, Robert Evans, Joe Willie Evans and Elizabeth Harrell.
Born December 18, 1930 in North Carolina, she was a daughter to the late Lucille ( Spruill ) and W. Oliver Evans. She attended and graduated the Booker T. Washington High School , the Boston City Hospital School Of Nursing and the La Newton School Of Beauty also in Boston.
Mary enjoyed her diverse blended family very much. She was a proud mentor and supporter of not only her biological children, but to her five adopted children, Sandra Alexander of El Paso, Texas, Brenda Mayfield- Burt of Durham, North Carolina, Anthony Burt of upstate, New York, Shikena Burt and Latasha Burt- Saunders both of Brockton. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her hobbies included reading, sewing, crocheting, crafts of all types, music, handmade clothing for her children’s doll’s and helping many other families in need. She also attended and was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Stoughton where she was fondly referred to as “The Grandmother of the Church.”
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 11:30A.M. from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. The Rev. Nory Leachon officiating. Visiting with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110 in Mary’s memory, would be appreciated.
