SUDBURY: Myrtice A. “Myrtie” (Barr) McInnis, 80, died peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013 following a long illness.
She was born in the family residence in Wayland on October 8, 1932 the daughter of the late Thomas A. Barr and Myrtice (Benson) Barr.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Linda McInnis and her husband Christopher Strang both of Wayland. Also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ethel Ferguson, Alberta Buckingham and Beverly Germano. She was the wife of the late Michael Daniel McInnis who died on July 22, 1981.
Myrtie has been a resident of Sudbury for the past 40 years and spent most of her life in Wayland and was a graduate of Wayland High School with the Class of 1950. Myrtie began a long and dedicated career as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service at the Wayland Branch and retired from the Cochituate Branch as a manager after 32 years. She will be remembered by many who visited the Cochituate Branch for her geraniums that she grew and maintained throughout the years at the post office. She was a member of the DAR of Wayland for several years. Myrtie always had a kind word and a warm smile for everyone that she met and was a fine and wonderful lady to all that knew her with a gracious sense of humor.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Barr-McInnis family lot in North Cemetery, Route 27, Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Myrtie’s memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
