Mary Kay (Nochnuk) Donovan, 89 years of age, formerly of Lawrence, passed away May 22, 2013 at the Nevin’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Methuen.
Mary was born to the late Kalenick and Anna (Madie) Nochnuk. She was the widow of the late Alderman and Director of Public Safety, Alfred A. Donovan, who passed away in 2005 and to whom she was married to for 63 wonderful and loving years.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Whittaker and her husband Stephen of North Andover, Among other survivors are her grandson Scott Whittaker and his wife Jennie and two great grand daughters, Ellie and Rylie; and her grandson Matthew Whittaker and his wife Amanda of Rowley, MA. She is also survived by her nephew Robert Nochnuk and was the sister of the late John Nochnuk.
A 1941 graduate of Lawrence High School, Mary had a short dancing career with the The New York Roxyettes where she toured with many well known entertainers. She was employed at Russems on Essex Street and Western Electric for many years. A member of the Massachusetts Womens Corp. during the war, she also taught ceramics to adults and children. Among her crafting hobbies were sewing and collecting dolls and thimbles.
