Mattie “Sue” Johnson Benson, 94, of Tifton died Monday, May 20, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dan Eidson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. David Ellis, Carl Johnson, Lamar Frazier, Dennis Arrington, Steve Arrington and Darrell Benson will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Benson was born on September 30, 1918 in Tift County and was the daughter of Hughie Johnson and Jessie Godbolt Johnson, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace Benson; one sister, Lois Ellis; three brothers, Howard Johnson, Hugh Johnson and Carlos Johnson; and a son-in-law, Johnnie “Sonny” Stephens, Jr. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Benson is survived by one daughter, Linda Benson Stephens of Tifton; one grandson, Ethan Stephens of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
