COCHITUATE: Irene M. (Perry) Dyer, 88, died peacefully and comfortably on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham following a brief illness.
She was born in the family residence in Cochituate on October 8, 1924 the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Inez M. (Dudley) Perry.
She was the devoted and beloved wife for 60 years of the late Charles A. “Al” Dyer who died on September 4, 2006.
Irene was the mother of Judith A. Ahola and her husband Howard of Chesapeake, VA; Valerie G. Gregory and her husband Larry of Tampa, FL; Charles W. “Chuck” Dyer of Cochituate and Lesley J. Dyer of Cochituate. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Irene was the sister of the late Frederick Perry who died in 1979.
Irene has been a lifelong resident of Cochituate and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1942. For many years she served as a crossing guard with the Town of Wayland Police Department. She was also associated for several years with the Wayland Public Schools at the high school with the lunch program. Irene was not one to sit idle and continued to work at Roxbury Carpet Co. in Saxonville and also at the Round-Up Supermarket in Saxonville.
She was a life member of the Community United Methodist Church and served on several church committees, the annual Church Fair and assisted with many Ham and Bean Suppers at the church. She was an active participant of the United Methodist Women and was one who was always ready to lend a hand when needed. She and her husband Al traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe before his death in 2006.
Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and was a caring friend to all who knew her and the lives that she touched. She will be fondly remembered as the neighborhood mother whose door was always open.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochituate.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Community United Methodist Church, 5 Damon St. (corner of Damon St. and Rte. 27), Cochituate.
Interment will follow in the Dyer family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Cochituate.
