WINDHAM, NH - Arthur McKivergan, 79, a former resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Thursday, May 16, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Windham Terrace surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on March 14, 1934, a beloved son of the late Patrick and Helen (Schneider) McKivergan. He was raised in Brookline, graduated in 1951 from Brookline High School and lived in the city for many years. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, attained the rank of Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Brookline and lived there until 1960 when he moved to Holyoke. He lived in Holyoke until 1970 when he moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee. In 2009, he moved to Hudson, NH to live with his son, John and his wife, Charlene and their family and later moved to Windham Terrace in Windham, NH. In 1960, he began working for the Laminated Paper Company in Holyoke where he retired in 1990 as Vice President and Plant Manager. To keep active, he drove for the Van Pool Transportation Company from 1994 to 2005. He was a former communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Elena P. (Melideo) McKivergan who was Called Home on October 25, 1994. He leaves his loving children, John M. McKivergan and his wife, Charlene, of Hudson, NH, Marie Krupski and her husband, Michael of Clifton Park, NY, Patrick McKivergan and his wife, Pauline, of Londonderry, NH and Kevin McKivergan and his wife, Helene, of Essex, VT; his 15 cherished grandchildren, Bryan, Timothy and Andrew McKivergan, Elizabeth, Helen, John, Paul and Miriam Krupski, Madison, Katelyn, Nolan and Aidan McKivergan, and Marc, Daniel and Christina McKivergan; his dear sisters-in-law, Anna Rundall and her husband, David, of Heathsville, VA and Lucy MacDonald of Rochester, MA; and several dear nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery, at the corner of Rte. 33 and 202, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
