Obituary

John A.C. MacLean Jr., 73, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 while wintering in Florida. John was the beloved husband of Janice (Comery) MacLean. He was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, but raised in Massachusetts and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. He was the son of the Late John and Alena (MacInnis) MacLean and brother to the late Neil and Allan MacLean. John had been a long time resident of Pembroke, MA as well as a summer resident to Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard. John was a dry cleaner by profession including ownership of Spot Cleaners in Pembroke Center but eventually had to retire from that profession due to his health. One of his biggest passions was working all over Massachusetts as a hockey timekeeper and announcer for numerous youth, high school, college, junior and men’s leagues. His infectious personality and ability to strike up a conversation with anybody allowed him to develop friendships with numerous hockey people all over North America. John was also a former member of the Halifax Lions and an active member of the Bryantville United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife Janice, he is survived by his sister Christine (MacLean) Locke of Stoughton, his children John MacLean III and his wife Debra of Pembroke, Janelle (MacLean) Lan and her husband Andrew of Swampscott, Jeffrey MacLean and his wife Sandra of Davie, Florida and James MacLean and his wife Irena of Brockton. John is also survived by his 7 grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy. They are: Lillianna Manon, Michael and Adam Lan, MacKenzie and Mason MacLean and Melana and Natalia MacLean. He also has 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. John’s Funeral Service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke on Wednesday, May 22nd at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow on Saturday, May 25th at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 21, from 4 – 8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, Pembroke.
