Obituary

Joseph T. Signori passed away at his home in Canton on May 15th surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 24, 1925 in Mattapan, he was the seventh of nine children. He attended Boston public schools, in high school Joseph acquired his lifelong skill for carpentry after taking drafting and woodworking classes. In l943; at age eighteen Joseph left school and joined the Navy where served on the USS Arkansas during World War II he was honorably discharged in 1946 as Boat Swain 2nd Class. After returning home he attended and received his High School Diploma from Hyde Park High. Joseph married his wife Clara in 1948 at St. Patrick’s Church, and together they raised their four children in the house he built in Canton. Joseph was employed by the James Rivers of Virginia Paper Company where he began as a lumper with promotions coming fast, he advanced to pipe-fitter and master mechanic. He retired in 1985 at the age of 60 after 42 years of service. Joe was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus #2095. In recognition of his services to the town, The Canton Board of Selectmen officially proclaimed November 20, 2005 as “Joseph Tobia Signori Day” Joseph truly enjoyed helping people and will be remembered by his family and friends as a truly remarkable man. Beloved husband of Clara (Tosi). Devoted father of Eugene J. Signori & his wife Kathy of East Bridgewater, Kathy M. Peters & her husband Gary of Weymouth, Mary Ann S. Roy & her husband Alan of CT and Judy M. Signori of Canton. Brother of Eugene Signori of Easton, Carmella Kerrigan of Dedham & the late Primo, Mario, David Signori, Lena Sheridan, Anna Galante & Sister Mary Angela. Also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Friday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
