Ann (McCarthy) MacArthur, age 79, of Brockton, passed away May 14, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late William M. MacArthur. Born and raised in Middleboro, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Alice L. (Cotter) McCarthy. Ann was a graduate of Middleboro High School, class of 1952 and Brockton Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1955. In 1996 she retired as Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at Brockton Hospital where she had worked since her graduation. She was active in many community organizations including Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, DW Field Park Association, Main Spring House, Brockton Interfaith Council and was a member of the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing Alumni and Retiree Organization. She was an avid reader, enjoyed going to the beach, gardening and spending time with her family.
Ann is survived by her four children Steven A. MacArthur and his wife Michelle of Bridgewater, Elizabeth A. Bendixen of Brockton, Robert B. MacArthur of Wareham and Karen L. Braman of Dover, NH; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a daughter in law Camille MacArthur of Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John F. McCarthy, ret Col. US Army, and Kathleen Briggs.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8am for a funeral mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial will be at a later date in Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Ann’s name to the charity of your choice.
